Mel & Eddie are getting married.
We hope you can join the party.
We hope you can join the party.
We met at a pie party on Pi Day. Mel brought three pies, and Eddie came empty handed. But we both left hungry to see each other again. From there, Eddie flirted by posting Instagram stories about cheese curds. Mel flirted by forcing Eddie onstage at a story slam to recount a deeply personal family narrative.
At another party, Mel needed help with a glass earring stuck in her tragus. So in the middle of the night, Eddie whisked her away to his creepy lab and tended to the earring with parafilm and wire cutters. She was not murdered or disintegrated in a vat of hydrofluoric acid—how romantic!
One week later, we went on our first date at Genna's Lounge. We talked for five hours about the nature of existence and our dads cooking exclusively Hamburger Helper during our preteen years. Dates two through two hundred followed in quick succession.
We moved in together in early 2020. Perfect timing! During the pandemic, we cooked elaborate meals, brewed tangy kombucha, baked exquisite loaves of sourdough bread, grew fresh mint, and spent every moment within 10 feet of one another. We were very happy and cozy in our bubble, and we did not get sick of each other.
Soon, our family grew. We adopted Niko (age 11) and Purrogi (age 2), two rescued Russian Blue cats. Sadly, Niko passed away from cancer in February 2022. The following month, we adopted a lucky black cat (age 1), whom we named Io after the moon of Jupiter. Because of their busy schedules, Purrogi and Io cannot attend the wedding, but we plan to serve some special drinks in their honor.
On May 30, 2021, Mel took Eddie to Olbrich Botanical Gardens. She led him around, getting totally lost while searching for the mint garden. She kept saying, "I think there's one more garden around here somewhere!" Thankfully we found it, or we'd still be wandering around to this day.
Mel gave Eddie a hand-painted picture book, got down on one knee, and presented him with a ring. He said yes!
Afterward, we went across the street to Olbrich Biergarten for a surprise engagement party with our friends. It was a total blast, complete with a vegan cake and a random lady venmoing us fifty dollars.Next step: Wedding!
